Quick explanation: As an employee at Sephora I notice many girls, women, and sometimes men ask the SAME questions about makeup tips/techniques or just makeup in general. So I’ve decided to blog about it and try to answer (as thorough as possible) any questions, that you as a reader might have as well.

Today I’ll be answering another five questions all about EYE SHAPES! I will try to explain the best way I can! ❤
Q: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT EYE SHAPES?
A: There are billions of people in the world and EVERYONE has a different eye shape so naturally, there are a variety of eye shapes. BUT there are THREE common eye shapes I will go over:
Most commonly seen on IG, in my opinion, are ‘almond eyes’ resembling the shape of an almond. These eyes are usually medium in size, NOT super large where you can see a majority of the sclera (the white area that surround your pupil and iris) and NOT small where you can barely see any sclera.
These eyes are also known as ‘LARGER’ eyes – but ‘ROUND’ sounds a lot better in my opinion. You can distinguish between the three by the amount of sclera you see around the iris/pupil – it should be obvious that there is a larger amount of sclera in these round eyes than in almond/smaller eyes.
In this cartoon image, the artist named this eye shape as ‘thin almond eyes’ but they can also be known as ‘SMALLER’ eyes. With these eye shapes you will see very little of the sclera UNLESS they open their eyes very wide.
Q: WHAT DOES ‘HOODED’ MEAN?
A: ‘Hooded’ is another way to characterize the shape of your eyes. This is where your brow bone/skin almost comes over/shadows over your actual eye. If you have hooded eyes your lid will not be as visible unless your eyes are closed. Sometimes these eye shapes can appear deep-set, almost sunken into the face. Q: WHAT DOES MONOLID MEAN?
A: Monolids are another way to characterize the eyes and are very common within the Asian community. These lids usually appear to have little to no crease, and give eyes a ‘flat’ appearance because of the lack of a defined brow bone. In comparison to ‘hooded’ eyes, monolid eyes have A LOT of space when their eyes are open. Those who do have monolids usually use makeup and lashes to make it look as though they do have a crease:
Q: YOU KEEP TALKING ABOUT THE CREASES IN MY EYES… WHAT IS A ‘CREASE’ ? WHERE CAN I FIND MINE?
A: Googling the definition, it gave me:
and it’s exactly that – MINUS the ‘produced on paper or cloth, etc.’ part. Since we’re talking about eyes, and eye shapes the crease is produced by the skin around your eyes. You can find yours by looking directly into the mirror and if you see the skin around your eye folding slightly then that is your crease! Some eyes have a bigger crease than others, and some create an appearance of the crease (monolids).
My crease is very small and I go SLIGHTLY above my crease when doing makeup looks – especially when using the ‘CUT-CREASING’ technique.
Q: HOW CAN I MAKE MY EYES APPEAR BIGGER?
A: There are a lot of methods you could try…
Eyeliner either above, or in your waterline will help define your eye. Use a NUDE/WHITE eyeliner in your waterline to make your eyes appear bigger, use a dark color (BLACK/NAVY BLUE) to give your eyes more definition. If you’d like your eyes to appear more almond, try doing a wing liner and tight-lining.
If your eyes are more wide-set (your eyes appear further apart) then try adding a bit of shimmer/a lighter color around your inner tear-duct/inner corner to make your eyes appear bigger/closer together.
OR simply apply some mascara on your top & bottom lashes!
